Ubuntu 8

May 2, 2008 by Nathan Gardner

A while back I read that Ubuntu released version 8, and it was suppose to have better wireless NIC support, so I decided to try it (again). I’ve been wanting to move to Linux for about 2 years now, but my cheap-o wireless card was never supported and I always had hardware issues. Ubuntu allows you to try out their dist without actually installing anything (runs off CD), so I decided to give it a shot. Amazingly - it works 100% first try without having to modify any configs or even go into the terminal.

If you’ve ever been on the fence on weather you want to try linux or not, I highly suggest you at least try the Ubuntu livd CD. I reformatted my OS drive and windows is now gone, and Ubuntu is my only installed OS.

Only thing I’ve had to install is Flash player 9 for Firefox, but it was simple and I had no problems. The user interface is very simple to use, and the visual effects are amazing.
